Don’t Waste It! A Guide to Upcycling Hampers
Did you know that the Ellen MacArthur Foundation predicts that by 2050 there’ll be more plastic in the world’s oceans than there are fish? At the moment, only 14% of the world’s plastic packaging is recycled, which is made even more worrying when you consider that supermarkets alone are responsible for a whopping 800,000 tons of plastic packaging waste each year.
Scary, right? That’s probably why, when it comes to packaging, we’re real basket cases. At least 70% of the material in all our boxes is recyclable, and 100% of it is FSC-certified. The wood wool inside is also FSC-certified and is entirely biodegradable, just like the loose fill.
And the best (or at least, the most fun) bit about our wicker hampers? All the things you can do with them once you’ve eaten your way through the contents. In case you need a bit of inspiration, we’ve put together some easy upcycling ideas to help get you started.
1. Storage Space
Keep your home clutter-free by using your wicker basket to stash towels, toys and other bits and bobs. You can even use multiple baskets in different sizes for coordinated interior design - and if that means you have to eat your way through three hampers full of chocolate, so be it.
2. Pet Playground
Anyone who owns a cat will tell you that they live by one implacable golden rule: if I fit, I sit. You can’t beat it so you might as well embrace it and turn your hamper into their own indoor playground or add a cushion to make a cute cat bed.
3. Flower Power
Nothing says “fairytale cottage” quite like flowers spilling out of a woven wicker basket. Hang your hamper in your window or pop it on a mantlepiece and fill it to the brim with fresh blooms to give your home a touch of storybook charm.
4. Shelf Help
Lighter baskets can be fixed to the wall for another stylish storage solution. Turn it into a floating shelf that can be used to keep bathroom sides clear or as unusual display case for some of your most treasured trinkets.
