Employee Engagement

Why employee engagement is crucial for success

There are many positive outcomes of team celebration. If you don’t already regularly celebrate at work, here’s what might convince you to start now.

Improve productivity with recognition

Those who take the time to recognise achievements can reinforce a team's motivation to achieve what they are working towards. It provides a chance to press pause and reflect on progress, success and achievement. A simple “thank you” can go a long way and the feeling of gratitude can fill the air with unity and camaraderie.

We spend a LOT of time at work; let’s make it enjoyable

On average, we spend a third of our life at work! Teams who celebrate together take pride in the work they produce and have fun which in turn creates loyalty and a sense of purpose within the business. Celebrations give an opportunity for employees to get to know each other and bring departments together, boosting company morale.

People perform best when they feel confident and comfortable

When people feel valued, it can uplift their mood and their performance. Showing recognition helps employees feel closer and more connected to their work, and when we’re personally invested in a cause, we’re much more likely to focus and give it our all. Knowing that others value you and your work can give new perspectives on your contributions and encourage you to improve even more to gain extra self-worth.

Take a break to renew motivation

Showing employee appreciation is crucial for retaining top talent. To have the most energy for a project, we sometimes need to rejuvenate by taking a step back for a moment. When a project finally ends, it’s the perfect time to offer employees a quick break from the daily grind and revitalise, ready to go again. The last thing any company wants is a burnout!
Now that you know why you shouldn’t pause on celebrations this year, now’s the time to implement some positivity!

Take note of these team celebration best practices

Celebrations don’t need to be extravagant and expensive

Sometimes the smallest gestures can mean the most to someone. A quick mention in a department meeting or making someone a drink can go a lot further than originally thought. After all, not everything has to be celebrated with a company cruise!

Thank you for...being specific

Leaving a handwritten note or card on an employee's desk letting them know what they’re greatest traits are can drastically boost moods. Let them know why they’re fantastic, whether they found a file for you really quick or proofread that document for you, it’s nice to value the little things.

Sweet surprise!

What’s better than some unexpected quality time? Carve out some time to cater lunch for the office or offer some extra paid time off as part of a wellbeing programme. At the end of a probation period or employment anniversary, why not surprise them with a bottle of champagne. It doesn’t need to cost the earth to the company but it will mean so much to the employee.
