The Year of the Rabbit

This Sunday (22nd January) marks the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese Zodiac, and we’ve gathered some of our luxurious red and gold hamper gifts to ring in the year here. Red and gold gifts symbolise wealth and prosperity, so these hampers are bound to make a splash at any celebration!

The Ruby

According to legend, the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac ran a race, and the Rabbit came fourth, beaten by the Rat, Ox and Tiger. Some versions of the story say that, while faster than the Ox, the Rabbit was so confident he took time to take a nap during the race and was overtaken. Others suggest that the rabbit was outrunning a wolf and didn’t realise he’d joined the race until he crossed the finish line. Either way, having learned from this experience, people born in the Year of the Rabbit are thought to be vigilant, cautious and lucky.

Red Envelopes

The Rabbit also brings longevity and peace; this year is thought to be a hopeful, lucky one. 2023 is a “yin” year, which represents a quiet and relaxing time – and we can certainly welcome that after the Year of the Tiger in 2022!

A key part of Chinese New Year is spending time with family and sharing gifts, memories, and good food. Whether you celebrate or not, we believe these are great values any time of year.
